70 & Thriving: My Energy Secrets for a Busy Life! (2025)

At 70, I'm busier than ever, and I'm thrilled to be back on stage with a play that's touring the entire British Isles and Ireland. It's a challenging endeavor, but I'm determined to make the most of it. I've learned that maintaining energy levels is crucial, especially when juggling a demanding schedule. Here's how I keep my energy going:

  1. Eating Well: I started a healthy eating regimen early in the rehearsal process. I cut out grains, dairy, and sugar, focusing on protein (eggs, chicken, fish), healthy fats (nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados), and plenty of vegetables. This diet shift helped me lose weight and regain my energy. During the tour, I prioritize food prep on Sundays and Mondays, ensuring I have nutritious meals ready to go.

  2. Supplement Regime: I've always relied on supplements to support my health. With depleted soil and processed foods, it's challenging to get all the necessary nutrients. I consult a professional to tailor my supplement regimen, addressing gut issues, mitochondrial function, and energy levels. I'll be taking these supplements throughout the winter tour to stay healthy and avoid colds.

  3. Stress and Sleep: Performing in a play is stressful, and managing nerves is essential. I use breathing exercises to calm my anxiety, which I've practiced for years. These exercises help me relax before sleep and manage stage nerves. Additionally, I use a Pulsetto device that stimulates the vagus nerve, promoting relaxation and improving sleep quality.

  4. Home Comforts: Traveling with comfort items is essential for me. I bring my silk pillowcase, warm pajamas, cozy slippers, and a hot water bottle. Having a kitchen in my accommodation allows me to prepare healthy meals and avoid takeout. I also have my entertainment setup, including an iPad, computer, and Kindle, ensuring I can relax and stay productive.

  5. Time Off: It's crucial to take breaks and prioritize self-care. I try to dedicate at least one day a week to relaxation and fun, away from work. This helps manage stress and maintain overall well-being. I'm grateful for the opportunity to love my work and share it with the public, and I'm open to all the exciting opportunities that come my way.
