Restore Your HHA Certification With Our Free Competency Evaluation Classes

Want to provide companionship and personal care to patients in their homes through a licensed agency? Many caregivers have experience as direct hires for private cases, but working with an agency provides more benefits, security, and opportunities to help clients.

Westchester Family Care offers a free, in-person HHA Competency Class for caregivers who have not worked for a licensed in-home care agency for 2 years. If your NY HHA certificate has lapsed, our 2-day class can help fast-track getting your NY HHA certification back. Classes are held at our Mamaroneck location.

Requirements

For CNA to HHA Only: Valid New York or Connecticut State Certified Nurse Aide Certificate is required

  • Driver’s License and reliable car
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster if eligible
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Full-time work availability (up to 40hrs/week) upon completion
  • Prior experience is required
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Current physical examination within last 6 months & TB test

This is a great opportunity for those who want to transition from providing care and being directly paid by the client to working for an agency with more stability and benefits.
  • If you already have a valid NY or CT CNA, the NY HHA Transition Class for NY & CT Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) is made for you. Expand your opportunities to provide in-home care to seniors and families living in New York State working for a licensed agency. This is a great opportunity for those who want to transition from a facility to work in a safer in-home care environment.
  • If you have some experience as a caregiver and are interested in providing in-home care full-time, the NY HHA Training Class will prepare you. Expand on your work experience and get certified to work in the rapidly growing field of in-home care.

Is prior experience required for classes?

Yes. All classes require some previous experience providing care, from working in a facility, being part of another home care agency, or providing informal care as a family caregiver.
