Curry leaves chutney or karuveppilai chutney with coconut for breakfast is an excellent way to use, consume, it's healthy.
Instead of picking up the tempered curry leaves, best is to incorporate it by grinding.
Check out my kuzhambu, thogayal too in this website.

When I wanted to post Podi, I came to know that even karuveppilai chutney can be made. So tried making it last week with idli and it was really good.
I love this curry leaves chutney for its health benefits of curry leaves. It's easy like making coconut chutney. So, make this often for your family as its very good for your health.
Have tried adding as such instead of sauteeing. It turns slightly different in flavor than this. Trust me, sauteeing makes it flavorful and tastes perfect.
Curry leaves chutney method
- Roast urad dal firstly in a teaspoon of oil until golden brown. Secondly, add curry leaves, fry green chillies and asafoetida after urad dal gets roasted.
- Grind urad dal, turmeric, asafoetida, coconut, tamarind along with salt and water until smooth.
3. Finally temper with mustard and mix it to the chutney.
Season with mustard and mix well. Serve with Idli/ dosa or upma.

Servings 4 people
Cup measurements
Ingredients
- ½ cup Coconut scrapped
- 1 tablespoon Urad dal
- 2 sprigs Curry leaves
- 6 Green chillies or red chillies
- ⅛ teaspoon Tamarind
- ⅛ teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 teaspoon Oil
- Salt and water - As needed
To temper
- 1 teaspoon Oil
- ½ teaspoon Mustard
Instructions
Roast urad dal in a teaspoon of oil until golden brown firstly.
Secondly, add curry leaves, fry green chillies and asafoetida after urad dal gets roasted.
Grind urad dal, turmeric, asafoetida, coconut, tamarind along with salt and water until smooth.
Transfer to serving bowl and temper with mustard to mix with the chutney finally.
Notes
- Adding turmeric gives a cool green colour. I use milk while grinding if the coconut is not fresh, that also adds for getting this cool green. Try this for any green chutney.
- You can replace urad dal with chana dal and green chilli with red chilli too...

If am not wrong, guess u missed out "Curry Leaf" in Ingredients part... BTW, its the best healthy chutney... Just a small tip, can also add Bengal Gram to avoid adding much coconut, which also gives thickness. 🙂

I add curry leaves with my regular coconut chutney and grind with yogurt if the coconut is a bit older.
Your chutney is very nicely paired with soft idlis, a very good variation to the routine chutney.Reply
