- ๐ธ Eggless pancake Method:
Two weeks back I happened to taste Hot cakes from Mc Donald's. And it was the first time I ever tasted a pancakes, also I had no idea pancakes are made mainly with eggs just like a cake, I got a doubt if it had egg in it, the very instance I tasted my first bite.
Since Aj didn't eat, I had to eat some. So some how had two out of three. Though I didn't love it, I liked the soft, spongy and fluffy texture of it. But after few days, I got craving to have pancakes and searched for eggless pancakes recipe. And found one here.
๐ฅ Easiest pancakes ever
Simple and easy enough recipe to try, with simple ingredients available. No fancy ingredients as well as no complex steps. Very straight forward even beginners can try, just follow the recipe and read the notes, you will get golden pancakes.
๐ฅ Soft & fluffy
Because of the milk, cooking soda and baking powder, the pancakes turns out really soft and fluffy. It stays soft even after it cools down.
๐ญ Top tip
- Use cast Iron pan for best results. This gives golden evenly browned pancakes.
- Heat the griddle first, switch it off, bring to optimum temperature and then again switch on to have the perfect round pancakes from the first one.
- Too hot griddle, the edges will be flower like and not smooth round pancakes.
- Also if the temperature is right, the color will be pleasant orange, not too dark brown.
๐ Variations
You can use whole wheat flour in place of all purpose flour. The texture might be slightly denser and more milk is needed for right consistency.
For Vegan version use vegan milk and avoid butter/ honey. Use vegan butter and maple syrup.

Eggless Pancakes recipe
Eggless pancake recipe, soft and fluffy. Step by step detailed recipe for perfect golden pancakes made at home from scratch.
Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
Prep Time 10 minutes minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes minutes
Author Raks Anand
Servings 6 pancakes
Equipments (Amazon Affiliate links)
Cast iron griddle
Cup measurements
Ingredients
- 1 cup All purpose flour/ plain flour
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
- ยฝ teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 1 tablespoon Baking powder
- Butter and honey - For topping
Instructions
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar with the whisk.
Add milk along with oil and mix gently. Set aside for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes again give it a mix.
Heat an iron skillet (pan) until it gets hot. Switch off the stove and leave it for 5 minutes. Again switch on the flame and put it in medium flame.
Grease with butter and pour one big ladle full of batter carefully. Do not spread.
Wait until bubbles pop over the pancakes and the colour changes and flip carefully.
Cook the other side for a minute and transfer to serving plate.
Notes
- Iron skillet (pan) works best to get golden brown color and even cooking.
- If you want you can cover and cook after flipping, this makes it even more soft and locks the moisture.
- If you heat the pan really hot and make the pancake immediately, the pancakes turn dark brown in color. Thatโs why I have heated the pan and switched off for a while to bring the temperature medium. ( I saw this in a video in you tube)
- If the pan is too hot, the pancakes will have edges like flower. that is it wont be a perfect circle. So make sure to keep the heat medium.
- Use a big ladle (or a ยผ cup), so that for all the pancakes, you use only one and so all of them would be on same size.
- You can use whole wheat flour as well, but experiment with the milk volume as it may take more.
- You can add cinnamon or vanilla essence to make it more flavorful.
- You can make this same with non diary milk and make it VEGAN by avoiding butter and honey.

What!? How have you people never had pancakes? You must not be from the U.S. of A, cause we eat pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! :-)...though, I had never thought that you could make them without eggs, unless it was the "Just Add Water" kind. Yep, we have processed, boxed, powered pancake mix in America cause we are THAT LAZY! We also have frozen ones you can pop in the microwave! (Yucky, though) Thank you for the recipe, looks yummy!

Pancakes are more like our dosa, but it will be thick and sweeter in taste. You need only honey or some sweet syrup to eat it with, top it with butter, kids would love it.

Please do not use self rising flour. It has added chemicals to make the dough rise high. The pancake liquid in the recipe will rise a little. If the pancake is too high then the inside will not cook and it will be unpleasant to eat.
The baking soda adds a pleasant tingly sour taste in the same way that tamarind does to other foods.
Also, one can eat a pancake the Scandinavian way. You add a little sugar with some lemon or lime juice as a topping.Reply

Excellent recipe without eggs!!! Should give a try... I have a quick query - what difference baking soda will do against baking powder?
Reply
Raks anand
Baking soda and baking powder are not the same, one reacts with the ingredients before and one while getting cooked, so it will bring some differences in the texture.

You measurements are out of the way I guess. I tried with the same and guess baking powder was almost 4 times as required. I had to put much more of the rest of the ingredients to get the right taste. My cup size might have differed from yours but won't be this off the mark....

Hey Raks..
I made these for breakfast this morning, and I got the same feedback too.. ๐ Slight bitter after taste.. I used the same measurement as mentioned by you.. Can u post pictures of what the tsps and tblsp look like? Also, can you elaborate on what you mean by mixing gently?
I had to use 1/4 cup of milk extra to bring it to batter consitency..It would be great, if you could post more details on the consistency..

Try adding buttermilk instead of eggs. By adding buttermilk you maintain the moisture and fluffiness that the eggs would have provided
