This is one of the craziest premises one can ever hope to encounter in a romcom. Despite sounding like a goofball comedy, it is actually doing a lot more than that. At the same time it’s not like it ever manages to create an awesome overall.
So after you watch the first episode and you run out of dirty jokes involving hands, you will wonder where the heck is this thing going at? You have a duo whose chemistry I dare say is very rare in the genre, in a form of coexistence that is simply mind-bogging. It is a very rare thing for me to be hooked by a romcom/ecchi premise and this is where Midori no Hibi manages to be quite captivating. I mean, seriously, WHAT THE HECK WILL THEY DO? WHERE IS THE PLOT HEADING FOR?
I will not focus at all on its production values, which to be honest are the epitome of mediocrity, and instead I will focus on the elements which made this show an unorthodox specimen amongst its kind. I don’t know about what expectations you may have of a show but I love to see something uncommon in a tired formula.
1) The hero
It is nice to see the protagonist NOT being a lame meek four eyes beaten up by tsunderes. Seiji is practically a fighting shounen protagonist, thrown in a romcom (for some reason he reminds me of Ichigo from Bleach). He is a delinquent who loves fighting and then suddenly his right hand transforms into a girl (insert random dirty joke) and then he has to cope with that by hiding it from everyone and not losing his coolness. A remarkable personal conflict.
2) The heroine
It is also nice to see the girl who is madly in love with the hero being more than a platonic girlfriend or ecchi generator. Unlike most fighting shounen she is NOT useless, and unlike most romcoms she is NOT a neurotic bitch with the tendency to express her feelings by kicking the crap out of you. She is there to help the protagonist in any way she can and is able to. Because she can’t exactly do anything she likes, since she has transformed into his right hand (insert random dirty joke).
3) The coexistence
Many ecchi comedies deal with a ronery guy suddenly having pretty chicks dropping in his life. None else I can think of can excuse such a tight coexistence without some sex. I mean you guys are living together and she is crazy for you SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? In this case it is much excused since they can’t do anything more than exchange random dirty jokes. Plus, getting naked in the bathroom is not something that happens accidentally. Hell man, they share the same body, IT CAN’T BE ACCIDENTAL.
4) ONE guy, ONE girl
There is no harem in this, although there are romantic triangles. The show never tries to make it more complicating than it needs to be.
5) The development and the resolution
Unlike most romcoms or ecchis, this show actually offers progress and conclusion. To be honest the development is neglected to the most part and shows it only towards the end, plus the ending itself is rushed and rather open. I also hear the manga had a lot more material that was never animated. Whatever, at least they didn’t just leave it in the middle of nowhere and since they never made a sequel I hold no grudge.
Thus the basic outline of the series is wonderful. On the other hand it is by no means a masterpiece, since the production values are mediocre, there is character development only towards the end, and the ending itself is abusing the amnesia routine to reset all progress, which feels cheap and makes everything that happened so far to be meaningless. But it’s ok; I am not going to bitch that much for these annoyances since the makers did try something different FOR A CHANGE. It is an ok series for its kind and I recommend it. But don’t expect super whoa storyline and characters because to its core it is still nothing more than a silly romcom.

Midori no Hibi: The story of a man who's afraid his right hand will be his only friend for life. Until his right hand becomes a girl who's apparently had a crush on him for a very, very long time. This review is based on KAA's release, which is probably the best out there. They're a good group^^
Animation: 06/10
To be sure, the animation in this anime isn't as great as most others I've seen, but this really isn't the selling point. Although bodies are in proportion, the faces are usually comical and have a weird feel to them. The general art seems to have more "straightness" than other anime, but that's okay because this is a comedy! The backgrounds are your average high-school setting backgrounds, with no close attention but not anything to warrant dropping the series.
Sound:07/10
Sound effects where you need them. Nothing is overdone in this anime, and I felt that the seiyuu did quite a good job. In fact, this is one of the better voice acting anime, where each character can show a wide range of emotions with a fitting voice. A rather cool opening which is nicely contrasted by a more melancholy ending, the songs have no problems at all. The effects aren't your great FF soundtracks, but they work just fine.
Story:08/10
Oh yes, let me mention that I am a sucker for stereotypical love stories. Except this one has a twist! The first few episodes are truly great, with lots of laughs and a new idea keeping the watcher on his toes. For the next 5/6 episodes, however, things slow down, but not necessarily in a bad way. The characters that are introduced are hilarious, and each new one gives further insight into the relationship between Seiji and Midori, as well as your typical anime love lessons. It is the last two or three episodes, however, that really bump this rating up to an 8. Great twists and(FINALLY) a fulfilling ending wrap up this journey of love quite nicely.
Character Development:07/10
Stereotypes developed in an interesting way. Not much I can say here, simply that the way in which characters begin to realize things about themselves seem rather gradual and natural. This is quite important, as a lot of times we can get random "OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE YOU" realizations that simply don't make sense. None of that here. Where this part lacks is how the secondary characters are basically thrown away by the middle/end of the series, to a point that it leaves the watcher wanting more. But whatever. These are Midori's Days, and not anyone elses, right?
Value:08/10
This section always has me confused, but I'm going to assume it means the value of torrenting and then spending my own time watching it. Certainly an anime with no problems and lots of comedy. A typical romance story that wraps itself up quite nicely, Midori no Hibi is certainly worth your time. In addition, it's 13 episodes, which felt like a perfect length. No extraneous stretching or trying to squeeze everything in to a short amount of time.
Enjoyment:07/10
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Although there were some lulls in the middle of the series, it really punches out by the end, and the beginning had me hooked. Definitely worth watching.
SO?: Download it, watch it. Have fun too! Relax a little, and enjoy the story

A... love confession. I've been cofessed to... for the first time in my life! No wait, I'm not happy... Bein' confessed to by my right hand doesn't make me happy one bit!!!
Originally written as manga by Inoue Kazurou and directed by Kobayashi Tsuneo (Twelve Kingdoms, Kurokami) Midori no Hibi[/b] is a light romance school comedy featuring a 'girlfriendless' protagonist who has his right hand turned into... a girl. So, the guy, Seiji, tries to, well, figure out what's going on and also find a way to cure himself of this.. errr, peculiar condition. Or that's, at least, how it looks from the beginning, as it doesn't take too long for the show to degrade into your usual light humor and platonic affection galore with "peculiar condition" left as the only fresh thing. That being said, the show does offer some laughs and also romance which though easily forgettable at least has a direction and end. This show might not be something you will remember for long, but it's going to be fun if you're into the thing.
The first episode is titled "Right Hand Girlfriend"... Let me say that again "Right Hand Girlfriend". Now, I might be a victim of warped sexual over-generalizations, but that title does sound a little bit disturbing. I wonder if there is some hidden significance in Midori becoming the right hand of a sexually deprived lone teenager... .....On a second thought, I'd rather not delve too deep into that. Either way, if asked if I liked Midori no Hibi I'd have to say, well, yes, to an extent. Some jokes, only achievable by Midori becoming protagonist's hand, are indeed funny and fresh. Protagonist happens to have a personality and even romance moves to the very end for a change (though, damn, is it weak). At the same time however, Midori no Hibi offers very little originality and its lineup of female characters ranges from boring to annoying. In other words, though I did have some good laughs with Midori no Hibi and liked its bright colors I also had many yawns with its bland romance and boring heroines. It's not a bad show, but it's not particularly good either.
Animation: 6/10
Animation done by Studio Pierrot (Hikaru no Go, Naruto) is average for the most part. Backgrounds don't particularly stand out. There is a moderate amount of detail put in to not make them look awkward, but you certainly wont notice any picturesque sights here, though I must say vivid color palette makes them look quite lively. Character designs, on the other hand, lack detail in a quite an unsettling way. Particularly the side cast has some awkward facial designs, like over-sized eyes and very round faces which mess all the facial proportions; Ayase was at times hard to take seriously. Not to mention the ugliness Seiji calls sister. Seiji himself might be the only one (apart from some generic male thugs) who looks okay; though there are some scenes where his face deforms to side cast-level ugliness. The fact that original designs aren't particularly attractive doesn't help the show either. Well, at least everyone are as bright as their backgrounds and have some well-done hilarious facial superdeformations.
The few scarce scenes of action are surprisingly well animated; there is little to no awkwardness in movements which is quite a feat in a romantic comedy genre. Inbetweens, however, are few and not particularly high tech. There are also some nice instances where emotional impacts are conveyed through some hilarious "metaphoric" skits; like Seiji scoring a bowling shot or even having his hand cut in a parody of The Saw movies. Those might have worked the best in setting the mood for the show.
Sound: 5/10
Background music composed by Hirano Yoshihisa (Ouran Koukou Host Club) is unfortunately quite lacking. There are some nice tracks at the beginning, particularly during action scenes; however, the quality soon goes down with the following episodes. Once the show hits its romantic comedy part the music... well, almost ceases. There are a few slightly romantic slow tunes and also a few of those generic "carefree" melodies, but sequences of silence are stretched far too long. OP/ED are the generic songs you always hear in average school comedies; the type you simply can't remember.
Voice-acting doesn't stand out either; the best sounding role might be that of delinquent Seiji done by Taniyama Kishou (Tengen Toppa as Kittan). Also, this show might offer the worst performance by Nakahara Mai ever; it's the first time I have actually thought her voice could be annoying.
Story: 6/10
Midori no Hibi spans for thirteen episodes and has a relatively original premise (I mean, it's the first time I see somebody having a romantic affair with his talking hand), unfortunately, it offers less originality than you'd originally expect and ends up being just another romantic school comedy you will soon forget. Though the comedy part of the show is well done (particularly the scene when Seiji loses his consciousness and Midori "imitates" him is damn funny), the romance part is seriously lacking; probably mostly to blame are Midori's boring characteristics. There are some "twists" like some other girls trying to seduce Seiji, but rather than angsty or even romantic they end up being more funny. It's nice the show has an ending, but you kinda see it coming from the very beginning and frankly none of this show particularly satisfied my romantic needs. Nonetheless, I certainly was amused by some of the hilarious situations Seiji was put in and was never exactly bored with this show.
Characters: 5/10
Seiji is about the only character in Midori no Hibi worth caring about. He is a kind-hearted, not so smart, hungry for woman's love delinquent who ends up being both easy to relate to and interesting to observe (especially when he is going crazy having his hand turned weird). The guy is not particularly deep and you already know where his developments will lead, but you keep an eye on him nonetheless, maybe because he can really be funny sometimes. Unfortunately, the girl who turned into his hand, Midori, is at the same time one of the most boring romantic interests I have ever seen. She has this squeaky voice and all she does with it is repeating the same thing (how she likes Seiji) over and over again (it's a saving grace she doesn't really open her mouth that much). She is from this silent, docile type which exceeds at doing chores and makes good wives, but is as exciting as a sleeping cow. If I had been Seiji I would have considered amputation.
I found side-cast much better than Midori in the sense that the guys, if not deep or anything, are at least funny in one way or another. I would have patted Seiji on the back if he had chosen the stuck-up class representative Ayase and ditched Midori into the nearest trash bin. Her tsundere'ish approach to seduce Seiji is one of the main highlights of the show. There is also this hilarious figure collecting otaku who offers quite a few good laughs through his attempts to identify Midori's "maker". Especially if you are into collecting figures you are bound to laugh, heh. And also let's not forget a damn grade schooler who tries to seduce Seiji with loli charms. Oh yeah, and Seiji's oafish sister is about the only character I'd like to boil alive from the side cast, but thank the gods she doesn't have that many appearances.
Myers-Briggs personality type indicator:
Ayase Takako - ESTJ (D)
Sawamura Rin - ESTP (F)
Sawamura Seiji - ESTP (D)
Kasugano Midori - ISFJ (E)
Takamizawa Shuuichi - ISFP (D)
Value: 5/10
Midori no Hibi is certainly not a show you'd want to watch many times. Yes, it has funny moments, but none funny enough to be consecutively re-watched; not to mention it highly lacks innovation in the romantic story it offers. You could name the hand-girl motive an original trait, but is it enough to make this show stand from the other average contenders in the genre? Nope, at least I don't think so.
- Conlusion[/u]:[/b] Midori no Hibi is your usual run off the mill romantic school comedy show with a girl-hand motive for extra spices. It's more funny than it is romantic and it's not as funny as the shows which concentrate on only being like that (like FMP?Fumoffu!). It's still not a bad show and if you either lack experience in anime realm as a whole or are a big fan of romantic school comedies you might not be disappointed trying Midori no Hibi out. Don't watch it, however, if you expect innovation, it starts and ends with the girl-hand motive. If you are into the genre I'd recommend checking Toradora! which is so far the best light romance school comedy I've ever seen.

What happens when Seiji has to poop? This was the first thought that came to my mind when I started to watch the show. I also wondered where does Midori's poop go? She eats, and it must go somewhere. Does he poop for both? I thought the idea of a girl being a hand seemed rediculous to me at first, but show ended up working really well.
The animation was well done. Character design were good: accurately proportioned and fluid movements. The character expressions were well drawn. Maybe not artsy, but backgrounds were well detailed.
The sound was fairly done well. The show had catchy beginning and ending theme (maybe not the best I've heard) and very occasional theme songs played during the emotional scenes. Seiyus were very professional and sounded familiar, especially Seiji (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - Takayuki Narumi).
The story was excellent using a weird concept. I didn't know if it was going to work well but it ended up being a sweet and romantic story. There were also good fight scenes and comedy. Midori being a hand and the puppet scenes were crazy, but rest of the story I could relate to. The comedy wasn't laugh out loud but I chuckled and smiled throughout the show. The ecchi and fan-service scenes were used tastefully and non-saturated so it didn't overpower the scenes.
The characters were developed very well. Either each main character transformed or we find out more about each characters thoughts and feelings. Even the minor characters were important in their roles to add more excitement and drama or push the story forward.
Overall I enjoyed the Midori no Hibi. It kept me interested through most of the show. I recommand this show to anyone who enjoy ecchi, comedy, action, romance, and cuteness.

A highschool guy wakes up to find his right hand has been replaced by a shy girl. That's the premise with which I watched this series. However, whatever extreme assumptions I had made from this were unfortunately not true.
Visuals:
The visuals are about average in nature. The animation is ok but not great, and the detailing in the artwork is of a similar quality, being perfectly watchable but never really showing anything to impress you. Since the anime is set around highschool life there isn't any picturesque scenes or landscape shots - fair enough - but any slight scenes of what could have been visual beauty haven't been pulled off with enough effort. Whilst watching the series it is obvious that the animators are very competant, but have not made this series to stand out visually, as though it was slightly rushed through due to its subject matter.
Sound:
Again the sound balances out to be around average. The sound effects are ok and have the appropriate tone for the scenes, and most of the musical score is fine too. However there are a few melodies that are very very irritating, along with a few of the character voices as well. The reptition of these makes the sound a worse factor than it should have been.
Story:
Let's be honest from the start - the idea for this series is no way near as innocent as the story turns out to be. As it happens, the story is actually about highschoolers pining over the people they're in love with, with a comical twist. And most of the comedy I might add, is only actually funny because it's so lame - I found that I was laughing AT the series more than with it, though admittedly there were a few genuine giggles along the way too.
The first few episodes kept me curious for more, but the series became a bit boring with tedious events and uniteresting plot routes. It very much turned into a series about love-sick kids - which would have been ok if the girl-on-the-hand aspect hadn't been pushed to back seat so much. A short way through the series I found that it had become less about a guy tackling highschool problems with a girl on his hand, and more about a couple tackling highschool problems together. Somehow the adjustment of the situation for the two protagonists seemed very quick.
Characters:
Midori no Hibi was filled with silly characters. All the support characters have an annoying side to them that outshines any of their worth. But luckily most of the series focusses simply on the two protagonists - Seji, a tough highschooler who one day finds that Midori, a shy girl from another school is attached to the end of his right arm. The reactions of the two are what annoy me however - Seji who is attracted to shy types doesn't show the remotest bit of interest in Midori, whilst Midori is now suddenly not shy anymore and declares her love for Seji every few seconds. As unrealistic as the series is, this sort of character relationship twist just makes it more contrived to fit something that it wouldn't normally.
Value:
This series holds no replay value for me. It had its charms but not enough to warrant a second viewing.
Enjoyment:
I was charmed by the series at first but grew tired of it in the end because it all seemed so childish. Some people will definately find the series funny - how it was meant to be perceived no doubt, but the humour was not up to my liking and seemed tedious. There were luckily, only 13 episodes.

Story-19/20-The story was HILARIOUS and original, we have had girls turn into mechs and weapons, but none that actually stuck on someones hand as a normal person. The story moves along at a terrific pace, while developing the characters very nicely.. There are some very interesting situations that Seiji goes through that could of only been shown through this series... Each episode is almost a filler episode, but each of them has a purpose, from comedy to problems to character development..
Characters-20/20-There are the two main characters, Seiji and Midori, grow their relationship out through all 13 episodes.. while other characters are thrown in as additions to the story. We have an Otaku plainly there for comedy, and another girl who is touched by Seiji, and soon develops a crush on Seiji, builds up a problem through the series.. Lots of character development as Seiji and Midori encounter other people and situations that develop them from strangers to beyond friends..
Music-9/10-The OP is a GREAT fast paced nice OP... the ED is also a Great slow, regretful sounding song, both of them make a great combo of an OP/ED. The soundtrack has a lot of great background songs that have been played through the series that are quite catchy and nice to listen to..
Animation-8.5/10-Lots of symbolic figures in the series.. You see something and then you are like huh.. and then later on you see it again and it reminds you of a lot of things.. Animation is of standard quality, but with a lot of deeper meaning to it..
Value-18/20-This is a GREAT short watch series.. with just 13 episodes, each episode is packed with comedy or drama that just makes each episode fun.. Points to the originality of the storyline and character development..
Enjoyment-20/20- I finished the series in a short amount of time cause i just couldn't stop laughing or I just kept wanting to see whats coming up next... a wonderful short comedy series...
Overall-94.5%
