Mystery in Rocky Mount: Multiple Dead Vultures Found - What Happened? (2025)

Bold headline: Dozens of dead vultures found in Rocky Mount prompt a full safety response—and here’s what you need to know.

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. — On Tuesday, December 2, authorities confirmed multiple dead vultures discovered on a wooded lot at the corner of Dent Street and Franklin Street (Route 40). Local and state agencies, including Rocky Mount Police and Fire, Franklin County Public Safety, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), have mobilized to the scene to investigate.

A DWR wildlife biologist has been dispatched to assess the birds and determine their cause of death. In response to the discovery, caution tape has been placed around the affected property to restrict access.

Officials emphasize that the town’s water treatment plant does not draw from the nearby creek, which is very shallow, so the municipal water supply remains unaffected. Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, residents are advised to avoid entering the waterways in and around the area until officials complete their assessment and issue a clearance.

As investigations continue, observers may wonder what caused the sudden die-off and whether other wildlife or environmental factors are involved. The coordination among multiple agencies aims to provide a clear explanation and ensure public safety.
