Nueva offers a multitude of opportunities for everyone attending, from those interested in math to individuals pursuing the arts, and with many clubs and electives available with topics ranging from building a lap guitar to creative writing, we can choose what we wish to pursue. An important part of our wonderful learning environment is the supportive, kind faculty: The teachers are mostly extremely trustworthy and know how to cater to everybody's needs and learning style. Our community is also quite nice—our student environment is not very cliquey, and parents are greatly involved in the path of our school. Additionally, from the Hillsborough campus, many acres of beautiful, lush hiking trails are easily accessible, and one can admire the rolling hills that border the school. Most of the BIM students end up attending top 10 universities. This compares to only 25% of the students at GDS or Sidwell and the 20% of the Potomac School kids who go to UVa. BIM students take science, mathematics, history, foreign languages, and arts at a young age. Kids have a chance to explore ideas and write about their findings. The curriculum blends the best teaching methods from Finland, China, and the USA. I am in 10th grade and there isn't that much HW. Teachers are hit or miss, but overall good. Still academically challenging albeit not everyone is asian or Indian like my old school. People here do study. Sports is decent/O.K at best. Campus is new and I'm excited because second new building is coming out this October. French section people is definitely unique and they are all cool people. If I wasn't introverted/shy/social anxious I would give a 5 star but this has affected my experience unfortunately since 9th grade. But nevertheless I have been able to overcome it and still make good friends. People here are introverted too like me. Everyone is nice and no one dislikes me for being a loner/quiet kid.... While any student or alum will say there were overwhelming periods (most will go catatonic at some point in junior and/or senior year simply from the stress of college admissions), I would argue that it was all worth it. There isn't much hand-holding past your freshman year, which I now really appreciate having worked at other private schools across the world, as it taught me how to self-direct my studies before starting college. Socially it was warm, the teachers were as a whole supportive and often went above and beyond to make sure we felt confident, checking in on you if you fell behind. Naturally it's a private school in a wealthy area, and so the wealth/class disparity is definitely noticeable. I do believe Baldwin could do a better job of educating the wealthier students about the "other side" - many understand the privilege they have to go to Baldwin, but don't really understand how rare the life they lead is....
